Recently, I have found that there has been some controversy over whether country music has “lost it’s tune”. Many artists have been labeled as country, but are heard world wide as a pop-country crossover artist. In just one car ride, I have heard Taylor Swift’s “You Belong with Me” and Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” both on my local pop radio station.

“I think a lot of the music that’s being played on the radio sounds more like ’70s pop than it does country music. There’s room for that, but if you’re going to call it country music, for God’s sakes, let’s hear some country,” says Billy Block, a radio producer.

Numerous country artists have complained that the loss of steel guitars and banjos is interferring with the true heart and soul of country music. If such factors, as well as others, are absent from the so-called “country music” should it be considered country at all? Are such artists changing the ways of country music? And is the change improving or damaging the music?
